Arcos de la Frontera hosts the exhibition ‘El Museo del Prado en las Calles’

  • The exhibition, promoted by the Fundación Iberdrola España, will travel to four locations in the Andalusian region
  • It will bring 50 of the most relevant works of the Prado’s permanent collection with photographic reproductions to the public of Arcos de la Frontera

Arcos de la Frontera hosts the exhibition ‘El Museo del Prado en las Calles’, organized by the Museo Nacional del Prado and Fundación Iberdrola España in collaboration with the municipality of Arcos de la Frontera. The exhibition has traveled to some thirty cities, touring the lands of Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, and Castilla y León, among others, to publicize the collections and historical heritage attached to the Museo Nacional del Prado through various educational programs and cultural outreach activities, for which there is an explanatory brochure as a catalog of the exhibition.

The exhibition virtually recreates the experience of visiting the museum by allowing visitors to contemplate the paintings in their real dimensions, living an experience similar to that of standing in front of a real work of art. It will bring 50 of the most relevant works of the Museum’s permanent collection to the public through 1:1 scale photographic reproductions and, for the first time, QR codes have been included in all the panels with digital resources of each work. The exhibition can be visited at the Paseo de Andalucía from March 3 to 26.

The exhibition was inaugurated this morning by Isidoro Gambín, mayor of Arcos de la Frontera; Andrés Úbeda, deputy director of conservation and research at the Museo Nacional del Prado and Fernando García, president of Fundación Iberdrola España.

In addition to Úbeda, Fuengirola, and now Arcos de la Frontera, the exhibition will travel in the coming months to Lepe and Carmona.

A journey through the history of Western art

This great outdoor exhibition will allow the viewer to know the history of Spain, Europe, and Western art through the hand of the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.

The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.

The exhibition ‘El Prado en las Calles’ has been a great success during its tour through Extremadura until October 16th. In practically one year, thousands of visitors have been able to enjoy some of the wonders of the Prado, reinforcing culture through daily visits. Since this traveling exhibition began in 2019 on the occasion of the Prado Museum’s bicentennial, a large number of municipalities throughout Spain have requested to host it in their most emblematic squares and promenades.

Fundación Iberdrola España, Protector member of the Museo del Prado

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of activity around the care and maintenance of the cultural and artistic riches of our country.

It has been collaborating with the Museo del Prado since 2010 by supporting the conservation and restoration programs of the art gallery, as well as in the development of 4 annual scholarships for young restorers. It also wished to join the Extraordinary Program for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Museo del Prado and, specifically, the deployment of this traveling exhibition in Spain.

Since 2011, Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated a total of 13 million euros to the area of Art and Culture, which focuses its resources mainly on the Restorations Program, which supports the restoration workshops of leading museums for the conservation of their pictorial and artistic heritage; and the Illuminations Program, which includes the design, execution, and financing of artistic lighting projects in unique buildings and monuments.
