• The exhibition, promoted by Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, travels through the region’s nine provinces seeking to promote the knowledge and cultural identity of the country’s historical heritage.
• The Mayor of Avila, Jesús Manuel Sánchez; the President of Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García; the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Junta de Castilla y León, Javier Ortega, and the General Coordinator of Education of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Ana Moreno, inaugurated this morning the exhibition that will bring fifty of the most important works of the Museum’s Permanent Collection to the people of Avila through life-size photographic reproductions.

Avila hosts the exhibition ‘El Prado en las calles’, promoted by the Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, with the collaboration of the Junta de Castilla y León and the City Council of the city. This is the eighth location of this traveling exhibition that started in Salamanca and made its last stops in Valladolid, León, Aguilar de Campoo, Burgos, Soria, and Segovia, and is touring the nine provinces of the region aiming to raise awareness of the collections and historical heritage attached to the Museo Nacional del Prado through various educational programs and cultural outreach activities.

The exhibition resembles a visit to the museum by showcasing the paintings in their full dimensions, which creates a similar experience to standing before a real art piece. It can be visited between December 17^th and January 17^th at the Paseo del Rastro, one of the most emblematic spaces in the city.

This successful cultural initiative was inaugurated this morning by the mayor of Avila, Jesús Manuel Sánchez; the president of Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García; the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Regional Government of Castilla y León, Javier Ortega, and the general coordinator of Education of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Ana Moreno, and will bring 50 of the most relevant pieces from the Museum’s Permanent Collection to the people of Avila through life-size photographic reproductions.

A journey through the history of Western art

This great open-air exhibition curated by Fernando Pérez Suescun, head of Didactic Contents of the Museo del Prado, will allow visitors to take a tour of the different schools that make upthe artistic panorama of the Prado’s permanent collection and to learn about the history of Spain, Europe, and Western art in general through the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.

The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.

The reproductions are shown on a 1:1 scale, so that, due to the dimensions of the exhibition supports, only a magnificent and grandiose detail of the work can be shown of some of the large paintings, which can be seen in full on the explanatory poster.

After the great success of the exhibition during the celebration of the Museum’s Bicentennial, “El Prado en las calles” toured the geography of Castilla-La Mancha until April 26^th. In almost two years, thousands of visitors have been able to admire some of the wonders that the Museum treasures in faithful reproductions, reinforcing culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID19 safety regulations in force.

“El Prado en las calles” began its journey through Castilian and Leonese lands, specifically in Salamanca on April 30, and, over ten months, touring other cities of Castilla y León, in addition to Salamanca, Valladolid, León, Aguilar de Campoo, Burgos, Soria and Segovia, its lastest stop, Avila, where it is presented today, and Benavente.

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of business around the care and upkeep of our country’s cultural and artistic riches.

In collaboration with the Museo del Prado since 2010 by supporting the conservation and restoration programs of the art gallery, as well as the development of 4 annual scholarships for young restaurateurs. The Fundación has also promoted the Programa Extraordinario for the Museo del Prado’s Bicentennial Commemoration, more specifically the deployment of this traveling exhibition through Spain, which continues to be a great success.

Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated since 2011 a total of 13 million euros to the Art and Culture department, which mainly focuses its resources on the Restoration Program, which supports restoration workshops of reference museums to preserve their pictorial and artistic heritage; and the Lighting Program, which includes the design, execution, and funding of artistic lighting projects in remarkable buildings and monuments.
