Iberdrola and Education distinguish the academic excellence of students from the community

  • The Salamanca town of Villarino de los Aires once again welcomes this initiative that allows young people to practice English through free time activities and coexistence with the environment in a spectacular setting located on the banks of the Duero and Tormes rivers, bordering with Zamora and Portugal
  • Awarding of diplomas to the first 20 students at the company residence next to the hydroelectric power station

The General Director of Innovation and Teacher Training of the Education Department of the Castilla y León Regional Government, Luis Domingo González, the mayor of Villarino de loa Aires, Julián Martín Jiménez, and the person in charge of the Foundation’s training and research area Iberdrola España, Teresa Rodriguez de Tembleque, have delivered this morning in the Salamanca town of Villarino de los Aires the diplomas to the first 20 students participating in a new English language immersion course organized by the Fundación Iberdrola España in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of the Junta de Castilla y León.

This program’s objective is to offer this educational modality to Compulsory Secondary Education students from publicly funded centers in the autonomous community.

The place chosen for the development of this initiative for another year, which will welcome 40 students, divided into two shifts in July and August, is the Iberdrola residence next to the Villarino de los Aires hydroelectric plant in Salamanca, a spectacular setting located on the banks of the Duero and Tormes rivers, bordering on Zamora and Portugal.

During the event, the director general stressed that “internationalization is one of the hallmarks of the quality of the Castilla y León educational system to open schools to the world. This program is an example of this where our students carry out a linguistic immersion during these stays and also those 23 teachers who during August will be able to carry out this training in their linguistic competence.

For her part, the head of the training and research area of Fundación Iberdrola España stressed that “Iberdrola, within the framework of its commitment to Castilla y León, promotes training and the transmission of knowledge, which contributes to fostering a generation of professionals with the maximum capacities to face the challenges of the future, among which is the development of a sustainable energy model .”

The immersion course has native teachers to offer an intensive program that improves the level of English proficiency of students from the community and gives them the necessary confidence to function in and out of the classroom. The Ministry of Education has made the selection based on their merits in the teaching of foreign languages and promotion of internationalization, and these in turn have chosen the students according to criteria of academic excellence, especially in English.

The professionals of the future

In 2022, Iberdrola hired more than 5,600 people, of which 36% are under 30 years of age. In the strategic plan for these future five years, it is expected that by the end of 2025, some 20,000 new people will have been hired. Investments of 75,000 million euros will help in parallel to double renewable capacity and advance in smart grids and the electrification of the economy.

Likewise, within the framework of Iberdrola’s commitment to excellence in training, Fundación Iberdrola España collaborates with scholarship programs from various institutions such as the Fulbright Commission, which organizes the Iberdrola-Fulbright scholarships every year; the Carolina Foundation, which has a program for Mexican and Brazilian students, the Inspira II and Reactiva social and labor insertion programs; and the restoration workshops of the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao.

The Junta de Castilla y León organizes multiple school exchange and linguistic immersion activities for the students of the Community to promote language learning and the internationalization of educational centers.
