Fundación Iberdrola España has moved to Plasencia the exhibition “El Prado en las calles”, which can be visited between July 22 and August 21 in the Parque de la Coronación.
The Museo Nacional del Prado and Fundación Iberdrola España, with the collaboration of the Junta de Extremadura and the town’s City Council, have developed this project intending to raise awareness of the collections and historical heritage of the Prado Museum through various cultural outreach activities.
The exhibition virtually recreates the experience of visiting the museum by allowing visitors to contemplate the paintings in their real dimensions, living an experience similar to that of standing in front of a real work of art. It will bring 50 of the most relevant works of the Museum’s permanent collection to the public of Plasencia through 1:1 scale photographic reproductions located in el Parque de la Coronación, one of the most emblematic areas of the town.
Miriam García, Secretary General for Culture; Marina Chinchilla, Deputy Director of the Museo Nacional del Prado; Fernando Pizarro, Mayor of Plasencia; and Fernando García, President of Fundación Iberdrola España, attended the first day of the exhibition this morning.
A journey through the history of Western art
This exhibition will allow visitors to tour the different schools that make up the permanent collection of El Prado and learn about the history of Spain, Europe, and Western art at the hands of the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.
The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.
The reproductions are shown on a scale of 1:1, so that, due to the dimensions of the exhibition supports, some large paintings can only be seen in detail, which can be seen in full on the explanatory poster.
The exhibition ‘El Prado en las calles’ has been a great success on the tour it made last February 21 by Castilla y León. In practically one year, thousands of visitors have been able to enjoy some of the wonders of the Prado, reinforcing culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID19 safety regulations in force.
‘El Prado en las calles’ will travel throughout this year to six locations in Extremadura, in addition to Badajoz, Zafra, Don Benito, and Plasencia, it will visit Trujillo and Cáceres.
