• Fundación Iberdrola España, the Museo del Prado, and the local town council have signed an agreement for cultural dissemination

• It will bring 50 works by great masters of painting to the public through reproductions from the museum’s permanent collection 

Seville will host in May the traveling exhibition ‘El Museo del Prado en las Calles’, organized by the Museo Nacional del Prado and Fundación Iberdrola España, with the collaboration of the City of Carmona. The exhibition comes to this municipality intending to make available to its citizens a part of the collection and the historical heritage attached to the Prado Museum.

The ‘El Prado en las Calles’ proposal allows visitors to recreate the experience of visiting the museum by contemplating the paintings in their real dimensions through large photographic panels. It offers an experience similar to that of being in front of a real work of art, with the advantages of an open-air environment and the possibility of enjoying the details of the work, with extended information on bilingual panels.

There will be 50 works represented, belonging to the museum’s permanent collection, selected to offer the public a journey through the history of Spain, Europe, and Western art by the hand of the great masters of painting.

This morning the collaboration agreement was signed in a ceremony presided over by Ramón Gavira, councilman delegate of Culture, Artistic Heritage and Tourism; Juan Manuel Ávila, mayor of Carmona, and Fernando García Sánchez, president of Fundación Iberdrola España.

This major exhibition will be curated by Ana Moreno Rebordinos, General Education Coordinator of the Museo del Prado. It offers a representation of the Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century. The reproductions have been designed on a 1:1 scale. Of some of the large paintings, a magnificent detail of the work is offered, which can be seen in its entirety on the explanatory poster.

With this stop, the exhibition continues its cycle through Andalusia, where it has already visited Úbeda, Fuengirola, Arcos de la Frontera, and Lepe.

After the great success of the exhibition during the celebration of the Museum’s Bicentennial, The Prado in the Streets began its journey through the lands of Castilla-La Mancha in 2020, visiting eight cities to continue its tour through nine cities in Castilla y León, Extremadura and ending in Andalusia, every one of them reaping a great success in terms of visitor attendance.

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of activity around the care and maintenance of the cultural and artistic wealth of our country.

It has been collaborating with the Prado Museum since 2010 by supporting the conservation and restoration programs of the art gallery, as well as in the development of 4 annual scholarships for young restorers. In addition, it has joined the Extraordinary Program for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Prado Museum and, specifically, the deployment of this traveling exhibition in Spain.

Since 2011, Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated a total of 13 million euros to the Art and Culture area, which focuses its resources mainly on the Restorations Program, which supports the restoration workshops of reference museums for the conservation of their pictorial and artistic heritage; and the Lighting Program, which contemplates the design, execution, and financing of artistic lighting projects in unique buildings and monuments.
