Trujillo hosts the exhibition ‘El Museo del Prado en las Calles’
- The exhibition, promoted by Fundación Iberdrola España, has traveled to six locations in the region with Trujillo as its last destination
- The exhibition will bring 50 of the most important works from the Museum’s permanent collection to the public of Trujillo through photographic reproductions on a scale of 1:1
Fundación Iberdrola España has transferred to Trujillo the exhibition “El Prado en las Calles”, which can be visited between September 23 and October 16 in the Plaza Mayor.
The Museo Nacional del Prado and Fundación Iberdrola España, with the collaboration of the Regional Government of Extremadura and the town’s City Council, have developed this project to raise awareness of the collections and historical heritage attached to the Prado Museum through various cultural outreach activities.
The exhibition virtually recreates the experience of visiting the museum by allowing visitors to contemplate the paintings in their real dimensions, living an experience similar to that of standing in front of a real work of art. It will bring the Trujillo public closer to 50 of the most relevant works of the Museum’s permanent collection through 1:1 scale photographic reproductions located in the Plaza Mayor, one of the most emblematic spaces of the town.
Jose Antonio Redondo, Mayor of Trujillo; Guillermo Fernández Vara, President of the Junta de Extremadura; Blanca Martin Delgado, President of the Assembly of Extremadura; Miguel Falomir, Director of the Museo Nacional del Prado and Mario Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola Spain, attended the first day of the exhibition this morning.
A journey through the history of Western art
This exhibition will allow visitors to tour the different schools that make up the permanent collection of El Prado and learn about the history of Spain, Europe, and Western art from the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.
The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.
The reproductions are shown on a 1:1 scale, so that, due to the dimensions of the exhibition supports, some of the large paintings can only be seen in detail, which can be seen in full on the explanatory poster.
The exhibition ‘El Prado en las Calles’ has been a great success in the tour it made last February 21 by Castilla y León. In practically one year, thousands of visitors have been able to enjoy some of the wonders of the Prado, reinforcing culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID19 safety regulations in force.
‘El Prado en las calles’ has visited six towns in Extremadura this year, in addition to Badajoz, Zafra, Don Benito, Plasencia, and Cáceres, and will end its journey in Trujillo.
