The altarpieces of Our Lady of the Rosary, “Tabla de Aniversarios” (a wall panel featuring a record of important dates) and sculptures in the Church of Navamorales (Salamanca) have been restored to their former glory after a thorough process carried out in two stints of work at the Higher School of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property of Madrid, thanks to the collaboration of Iberdrola.

The two side altarpieces (dating from the Baroque era), the “Tabla de Aniversarios” (a wall panel made of wood and manuscript paper dating from the 18th century), the sculptures of a processional cross featuring a crucified Christ (18th century), St. John as a Child (17th century), the Child Jesus and the sculptural group of St. Anne and Our Lady as a Child (also dating from the 18th century) and a valuable 16th century processional cross made of silver have now been returned to their original locations.

In carrying out these tasks, the students were able to work on important items belonging to the artistic heritage of Navamorales. This gave them a chance to build on the knowledge acquired in their academic training in supervised activities that are assigned as a reward to the students with the best grades.

The meticulous and comprehensive measures carried out on these works not only allowed to restore them and give them back their original colours and beauty. They will also guarantee their preventive conservation, protected by varnish.

“The work done by our students constituted a full conservation and restoration project and it was assigned as a reward to those with the best grades so far”, explains the Director of the School, Ruth Viñas.

As well as its main activity, one of the contributions made by Iberdrola to the territories where it has operations consists of promoting the restoration and conservation of historical-artistic heritage through collaboration with both public and private organisations and institutions in charge of managing heritage, so as to boost the creation of wealth and promote development in these regions. It also backs training for a new generation of professionals that will be capable of driving the transformation towards a sustainable energy model.

“This collaboration combines two key aspects: the restoration and conservation of historical-artistic heritage and excellence in training”, explains Carmen Recio, Head of the Art and Culture Area in the Fundación Iberdrola España.

This intervention completes the campaign undertaken by this town in the province of Salamanca to renovate its prized religious heritage, under the auspices of the agreement signed in 2015 by Iberdrola and the Higher School of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property of Madrid.
